Stepline Privacy Policy

Developer: VNCNT Labs · Effective date: October 17, 2026 · Version covered: 1.0 (free) · Contact: hello@vncntlabs.com

This policy covers the browser extension VNCNT Stepline: Step-by-Step Guide & SOP Recorder for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Stepline records the steps you take on a web page and turns them into a guide with screenshots. Everything stays on your computer. VNCNT Labs never receives your screenshots, your guides or anything else you do with the extension, and version 1.0 makes no network requests at all.

1. When it records and what it can access

Stepline records only after you start it (toolbar icon → Record, or Alt+Shift+G), only in that one tab, and only until you press Finish or Discard, close the tab, or reach the free plan's 25-step limit. The toolbar badge shows the step count while it records, and II while it is paused.

It has no access to websites by default. When you start a recording, your browser gives it temporary access to that tab ("activeTab"). That access covers the website you started on. If a click takes you to a different website, recording pauses until you click the Stepline icon there. If you turn on the optional Record across sites without asking setting, your browser asks you for permission to run on all sites, only so that recording can continue after such a click. Stepline still runs only in the tab you are recording, and you can turn the setting off at any time.

While recording, Stepline notes which element you clicked, checked, selected or typed into, and reads that element's visible label to write the step title (for example "Click 'Save'"). It reads the text you typed only to put it in the title, and you can turn that off in Settings. Passwords and text that looks like a secret are never written into titles. It does not read cookies, browsing history or other tabs.

2. Screenshots and automatic blurring

For each step, Stepline takes a screenshot of the visible part of the tab using the browser's own screenshot function. Before the screenshot is saved, it looks for email addresses, API keys and tokens, and card numbers on the page (plus phone numbers or all filled fields if you turn those on) and blurs those areas in the image itself. The unblurred screenshot is never stored. Automatic blurring reads page text, so it cannot see text inside pictures, canvas-drawn apps or embedded frames from other websites. Please check your screenshots before you share a guide; you can draw extra blur boxes in the editor.

3. Stored on your device only

Nothing is synced to us or to any cloud. Uninstalling the extension removes all of it.

4. Exports and sharing

When you export a guide (PDF, HTML, Markdown, or later Word or Confluence), the file is created on your computer and saved through your browser's normal download. Copy to clipboard puts the guide on your system clipboard. What happens to those files afterwards is up to you.

5. Pro (not yet available)

Version 1.0 is free only. It has no purchase or license features and makes no network requests. When Pro launches, it will be sold through Lemon Squeezy, and activating it will send your license key and an instance name to Lemon Squeezy to check it. We will update this policy before that version is released.

6. Data sharing and selling

We do not collect, sell or transfer user data. We do not use any data for advertising, creditworthiness or lending, or for anything unrelated to recording and exporting your guides.

7. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The use of information received from browser extension APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

8. Children

The extension is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

9. Security

The extension uses the "activeTab", "scripting", "storage" and "unlimitedStorage" permissions, plus optional access to all sites only if you turn that setting on. It runs no remote code: all scripts, fonts and its PDF library are packaged. Its pages use a strict content security policy, and it adds nothing to the pages you record.

10. Trademarks

Stepline is an independent product of VNCNT Labs. Google and Chrome are trademarks of Google LLC. Microsoft, Edge and Word are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. Confluence is a trademark of Atlassian. They are mentioned only to describe compatibility.

11. Changes

If we change what the extension handles, we will update this page and the effective date before releasing that version.
